Breck exchanges on Huyton church land for 136 affordable homes

The developer will acquire the 6.7-acre former St Dominic’s Primary School plot off Southdean Road subject to planning approval.

Breck Homes, among the North West’s most active acquirers of land and developers of housing, is preparing to submit plans for 136 affordable homes to Knowsley Council having exchanged contracts on the Huyton site with the Archdiocese of Liverpool.

The former school closed in 2011 and the site, located next to St Dominic’s Church, has since been cleared. Breck’s plans for the plot include a mix of one to four-bedroom houses one and two-bedroom apartments. All 136 will be available on affordable tenures.

Construction is expected to begin in spring 2027, subject to planning approval. Once plans are approved, the land deal will complete.

Phil Dolan, managing director for the North West at Breck Homes said: “This is an important brownfield site which has been unused for many years, and we believe there is a real opportunity to bring it back into positive use for the benefit of the local community.

“Huyton, like many areas across the North West, needs more good quality affordable homes, and our aim is to create a place that provides these, improve a long-unused site and make a positive contribution to Huyton.”

He added: “We understand how important this site is locally, particularly given its connection to St Dominic’s Church and the former school. That is why we want to work carefully and constructively with residents, the parish, the Archdiocese and Knowsley Council as the plans move forward.”

A consultation event will be held at The Gate Community Centre in Huyton on 16 July between 2pm and 6pm.
