AECOM appoints project management director

Newly hired Stephen Kenny will work alongside Matthew Gerken in leading the global infrastructure consultancy’s Salford-based project, programme, and cost management team.

Kenny has joined AECOM from Tetra Tech’s RPS Group, where he had worked for four years and was director of project management. During that time, he worked on Logik Developments’ £120m, 355-home project off Chester Road and Peel’s Wirral Waters. Kenny’s resume also includes roles at Rider Levett Bucknall, Arcadis, and Bruntwood.

In coming to AECOM as a project management director, Kenny has reunited with Gerken – they worked together at RPS prior to Gerken joining AECOM last summer.

Together, the two will lead the 30-strong project management team in Salford.

“Stephen and Matthew’s appointments are more than simply strengthening our team – they are a statement of intent,” said Jonathan Moore, director and head of project, programme and cost management in the North at AECOM.

“They’re both excellent operators and are well-recognised, not just in the region, but within the built environment sector as a whole.

“We’re ambitious in the work that we want to deliver – supported by the scale, culture and technical expertise of the wider AECOM family in the UK and across the world,” Moore continued.

“This means enhancing our team of specialists at every opportunity as we continue to support private developers and local authorities across the North to achieve their ambitions – including decarbonising their portfolios. Stephen brings a wealth of technical excellence and I know he will join Matt in hitting the ground running.”

AECOM has around 580 staff members working outside of its office at 100 Embankment in Salford. Recent projects for the firm include the £70m Accrington Town Square transformation, a new building for University of Salford’s School of Health and Society, and Sefton Council’s £73m Marine Lake Events Centre.
