Worsley’s Franciscan convent to be redeveloped into a care home
Harrogate-based Angela Swift Developments wants to build an 81-bed care home on the Greenleach Lane site.
The Franciscan Missionaries of St Joseph vacated the site earlier this year, paving the way for its redevelopment.
Plans lodged with Salford City Council by Angela Swift seek permission to knock down the existing convent buildings and construct a three-storey, 43,000 sq ft care home offering 81 rooms and round-the-clock care.
The building would be accessed from Broad Oak Road.
TDC Architects is leading on design and has crafted a scheme that acts as a “complementary neighbour” to the Victorian houses in the surrounding area, according to a design and access statement accompanying the application.
To learn more about the scheme, search for reference number PA/2025/1506 on Salford City Council’s planning portal.

Yet another blot on the landscape. 81 beds I would imagine means it’s going to be a large new building and what’s left are the garden would become a car park!

Certainly not the sort of design for a small road and residential area. We have several care homes already in the area.

How many nursing homes does Worsley need
There is one about 600yards away and another about a mile. The area cannot cope with the excess traffic, delivery vehicles ambulances plus visitors
The area does not want a big business, nursing homes are not quite places.
