Work starts on £10m Blackpool college campus

ISG has started construction work on the new £10m campus for the Fylde College in Blackpool.

Redevelopment of the college's town centre campus includes the construction of a new 'learning hub' at the entrance to the campus, linking existing buildings via a new refectory, library and teaching and staff accommodation.

ReBlackpool, the urban regeneration company, is working closely with the college and Blackpool council on the scheme, which will be ready to open its doors to the first students before the start of the 2009 academic year. Doug Garrett, chief executive of ReBlackpool, said: "The new campus will act as a significant regeneration catalyst, offering a new teaching and learning provision which will be aligned with growth industry sectors in the Blackpool sub region.

"Our aim is to improve the town across the board, from leisure and tourism facilities to housing and education. This investment is testament to our commitment to delivering economic and social improvements to the residents of Blackpool."
