Winners of North West Regional Construction Awards announced
The Laing O’Rourke-led team behind Everton FC’s Hill Dickinson Stadium claimed Building Project of the Year at the 20th anniversary edition of the awards ceremony.
Hosted by journalist and University of Salford chancellor Lucy Meacock, the North West Regional Construction Awards were held on 2 July at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool.
The awards saw more than 420 guests gather to celebrate construction excellence and the industry at large.
The NWRCA is held in partnership with Constructing Excellence in the North West, the School of Science, Engineering, and Environment at the University of Salford, and the Centre for Construction Innovation. Clear organised the event, whose headline sponsor was A&B Engineering.
Building Project of the Year was just one of the ‘big three’ awards of the evening that will go on to be considered for a national Constructing Excellence Award in November. The other two are Residential Project of the Year and Infrastructure Project of the Year.
The Residential Project of the Year winner was No1 Ancoats Green (Rodney Street), whose team included Wates and Manchester City Council’s This City.
The Infrastructure Project of the Year award went to Electrical Distribution Network Upgrade Project – ISA (EDNUP) by Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, Sellafield, and ARUP.

It was clear early on that this award ceremony would be “truly special,” according to head judge Peter McDermott, who is also a profession of construction procurement at the University of Salford.
“With a record number of entries, particularly in the SME and Social Impact categories, our judges had the privilege of reviewing an outstanding range of organisations, projects and initiatives from across the region.
“We were delighted to celebrate those who have embodied the principles of Constructing Excellence over the past year. Supply chains supporting both private and public sector clients – from Sellafield in Cumbria to the NHS in Cheshire, from Everton Football Club in the Liverpool City Region to Blackpool and Wyre councils in Lancashire, and school projects across Greater Manchester – came together for a fantastic evening of celebration at the Titanic Hotel,” McDermott continued.
“The evening also gave us an opportunity to reflect on the projects and people who have helped shape and define ‘Constructing Excellence’ in the North West over the past two decades. The innovation, collaboration, and leadership demonstrated by this year’s finalists and winners show what our industry can achieve at its very best.
“If these behaviours and approaches were adopted more widely, I have no doubt that the sector would be in a far stronger position to meet the unprecedented demands that both the public and private sectors will place upon it over the next decade.”
