Lidl tables plans for store on former Timperley garden centre

The former Dobbies Garden Centre off Green Lane could be redeveloped into a supermarket under plans lodged by the rapidly expanding chain.

Lidl has submitted an application to Trafford Council requesting permission to build a 23,500 sq ft store with a 16,500 sq ft sales area on the 2.25-acre Timperley site.

The scheme would provide 115 car parking spaces.

The Dobbies complex, formerly Wyevale Garden Centre, closed in 2024 when owner Ares Management pursued a restructure on widening losses.

Rapleys, which is retained by Lidl to provide planning and design advice, is leading on the application. Space Architects, Enzygo, Signify, DDA, FDA, Acoustic Consultants, Cora IHT, and Obsidian Geo-Consulting are also advising Lidl.

Now trading in the UK for 32 years, Lidl GB has grown to boast more than 35,000 employees, over 1,000 stores and 13 distribution centres. The business is part of the Schwarz Group, a global retail behemoth with annual revenue of €167.3bn in 2024.
