Trust plots £25m resi project at Alder Hey

Alder Hey Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has launched the search for a development partner to bring forward a housing scheme on part of its old hospital site in Liverpool.

According to a tender notice published by the Trust, the intention is to dispose of a 10-acre plot of remediated land “to a suitable buyer who would be willing to develop the land in accordance with the Trust and Liverpool City Council’s vision of a primarily residential development which is in harmony with the surrounding properties and the new Alder Hey Hospital in the Park”.

The £237m replacement Alder Hey hospital, designed by BDP, was completed in October and sits within the 22-acre Springfield Park. Hospital services and staff transferred over from the old neighbouring facility, which was almost 100 years old.

Throughout the build process for the new hospital, NHS bosses said that the site of the old hospital would be used for a replacement park.

In the tender, the Trust said that offers may be submitted in the form of a bid-back model with capital or revenue options being considered.

No one at the Trust was available for comment on how the housing project would affect plans for the park.

The deadline for expressions of interest is 2 May 2016 at noon.
