TrueNorth Partnerships buys land for Salford affordable homes
The residential developer has acquired a plot off Worral Street in Ordsall that the company is earmarking for redevelopment into 188 flats.
TrueNorth Partnerships, which buys land to develop into homes in conjunction with registered providers, bought the land from Sunny Sky Living.
The planned redevelopment of the site is to be delivered in joint venture with Formic Investments, a London-based real estate advisor that has a minority stake in the JV.
A six-storey, 100% affordable scheme is the early thinking from the JV, which has appointed architect Bowker Sadler and planning consultant Euan Kellie Property Solutions to draw up plans.
Adam Podmore, commercial director at TrueNorth, said: “Worrall Street is an opportunity to deliver genuinely affordable homes at scale on a prominent waterfront site.
“An all-affordable scheme of this size in Ordsall is a significant addition to Salford’s housing supply, and we’re looking forward to working with the council to bring it forward.”
The scheme is the second TrueNorth has announced in Greater Manchester in short order; the firm is also working with CERT Property on plans for Droylsden Marina in Tameside.
The developer’s Ordsall scheme is located in an area undergoing significant change. In recent years Great Places has delivered a £35m housing project on a former dye works off Worral Street, while Legacie has built the £45m Merchants Wharf.
Earlier this year, co-living developer Re:shape secured consent for a 386-unit scheme featuring a 22-storey tower on the plot next to TrueNorth’s.
