Tameside mill site to become 49 affordable homes
Contractor Holmpatrick received the go-ahead for its plans to tear down Britannia New Mill, replacing it with 32 social rent flats and 17 shared ownership houses – due to be managed by Onward Homes.
Tameside Council voted to approve the scheme at its planning committee meeting this week.
The 42,800 sq ft Britannia New Mill has been fully vacant since 2022. It sits on a 1.7-acre site off Queen Street in Mossley, south of the River Tame.
Designs by Millson Group outline the construction of a four-storey apartment block along the site’s western boundary. The flats inside would comprise 15 one-bedroom residences and 17 two-bedroom ones.
The houses would be a mix of terraced, townhouses, semi-detached, and detached properties. Most would have three bedrooms, with four having only two. These houses would sit on the eastern edge of the site.
Residences would be able to access the site from Two Mills Lane. There would be parking for 50 cars, with 14 bays reserved for the apartment block and 30 for the houses. There would also be six visitor spaces.
In addition to Millson Group, the project team includes Seymour Planning, SCP, Amenity Tree, Helen Hamilton Ecology, Red Acoustics, Fosse Surveying, REFA, Strategio, Carly Daines Associates, PGC Consulting, and TWC.
