THING OF THE WEEK
DONKEY BUSINESS… Our loyal THING readers will recognise this project from our 2 December column, but we are now glad to report that Denbighshire is officially set for donkey trekking adventures as the council has approved Moel Famau Donkeys’ latest venture. Visitors will get the chance to meet and greet the animals and really get to know their personalities, before taking a beautiful scenic walk in the North Wales countryside. The idea was inspired by society’s post-pandemic love for the great outdoors – and you can’t get much greater than donkeys, right?

I’VE GOT THE SPIRIT… A bar inspired by the music of Joy Division is opening this weekend on High Street in the city’s Northern Quarter – and you can expect it will have quite the atmosphere. Disorder will host a range of small, neighbourhood bars, with a dive bar complete with a DJ booth and an area for bands to play. Visitors will be able to enjoy drinks and snacks, watched over by a huge Ian Curtis mural – cheers.

SOHO COOLIO… Luxury members club Soho House has revealed new images of its upcoming Manchester location at the former Granada Studios. Soho members will be able to enjoy a boxing area, sauna, steam room, and lounge. While we have to admit that the rooftop pool does look cool – we can’t help but be a bit sceptical of how such a concept will work in Manchester. Lets hope it is heated, otherwise it may be hard to do a few laps in the city’s signature chilly rain.
ROAD TO EQUALITY… The city’s new Preston Western Distributor Road will be formally known as Edith Rigby Way, named after its very own suffragette. Edith Rigby dedicated her life to fighting for women’s rights, from her launch of the Preston branch of the Women’s Social and Political Union to her night school aimed at educating women and girls. The road will not only link parts of Preston to the M55, but also to a significant woman in its history – and just in time for International Women’s Day!
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE @ Colliers Yard | February 2023👷

SKY-HIGH SALFORD… With the news earlier this year of Renaker’s 71-storey skyscraper in Manchester, you would haven’t been blamed if you forgot about the developer’s plans for across the River Irwell. New footage of the progress being made at Colliers Yard though succeeded in getting us excited about the project again. The first tower is set to complete later this year.
You know Manchester has come far when it’s getting (possibly heated) rooftop pools
