The Real Greek picks Manchester for first Northern site
The restaurant chain, part of the same group as pizzeria Franco Manca, is to take over a 6,200 sq ft unit in the Corn Exhange previously occupied by Wahaca.
The Manchester site will be The Real Greek’s twentieth and furthest north. The majority of its restaurants are in London with additional outlets in Bournemouth, Norwich, Southampton, Reading, Bristol and Bracknell.
The Real Greek is part of the Fulham Shore group of restaurants. Another, Franco Manca, operates out of Mosley Street in Manchester and is planning to open a second site on King Street, as reported by Place North West in September.
In a trading update published last week, Fulham Shore said that deals to open up 20 more Franco Mancas and The Real Greeks are in the works.
Fulham Shore is working with Technical Signs on the signage strategy for the Corn Exchange restaurant.
David Page, chairman of Fulham Shore, said: “Fulham Shore continues to experience growing sales across both our businesses. Many of our restaurants throughout the UK continue to break trading records on a regular basis.
“We are accelerating our growth in the UK and abroad. We continue to trade ahead of our own expectations and have a strong pipeline of exciting new locations.”
The former Wahaca restaurant, unit two within the Corn Exchange, has a rateable value of £201,000, according to letting agent Metis Real Estate. The Corn Exchange is home to a variety of operators including Cosy Club, Gino’s, Mowgli, Vapiano, Banyan and Roomzzz aparthotel.
Wahaca closed a third of its restaurants as a result of the pandemic. These included sites in Manchester and Liverpool, its only northern venues.
