Agent instructed as another school bites the dust

Administrator FRP Advisory has tasked Sanderson Weatherall with finding a buyer for St Gerard’s in Bangor, which closed this month.

FRP was appointed to run the affairs of St Gerard’s School Trust on 3 July, when the school term ended. The education facility is based off Ffriddoedd Road in the heart of Bangor, close to the university.

No guide price has been given, with prices available on request. There is potential for redevelopment as hotel, residential or leisure uses.

Across the main building and separate junior school block, the school offers 25,726 sq ft, within a plot amounting to 4.56 acres.

The main building, which dates from around 1880, offers space over four floors, including basement.

As set out in Sanderson Weatherall’s particulars, the site offers “excellent transport links” with access from the A55 North Wales Expressway making it accessible to the wider area. It is also close to the railway station.

A fee-paying day school, St Gerard’s announced its impending closure in May. Also in North Wales, the 700-year old Ruthin School announced its closure this month, while in Cheshire, Alderley Edge School for Girls has been another to close, with the introduction of VAT on school fees widely cited as a key factor in the wave of closures.
