Sutcliffe joins Train 2000 Wiced team

Independent civil and structural engineer, Sutcliffe, has been appointed by Train 2000 to work on the £4m Women's International Centre for Economic Development in Liverpool.

The 20,000 sq ft building on the corner of St James Street and Norfolk Street, in the Baltic Triangle area between the city centre and Toxteth, will contain managed work and incubation space for new and high growth enterprises by women.

Sean Keyes, director of Sutcliffe, said: "Sutcliffe has historically worked on many of Liverpool's groundbreaking projects and we are excited to be involved in the delivery of this fantastic scheme. Sutcliffe has the local knowledge to really get under the skin of this development and help construct a fantastic building."

Keyes said Sutcliffe has already undertaken a number of detailed site investigation studies. The initial investigation revealed that due to the proximity of the scheme to the docks, there was a strong possibility of unexploded ordnance on the site. This required a specialist examination alongside the normal physical examination, through which Sutcliffe was able to identify the probable risks associated with the groundwork element of the build.

Work by contractor Kier North West will start on site in December and the building is set to be complete in 2010.
