PureGym sets up shop at Sale’s Stanley Square
Asset manager Altered Space has secured the letting of a 24,000 sq ft unit to the gym on a 15-year lease, meaning the square is now fully occupied.
The unit was previously a Wilko but will now host a gym floor spanning 16,800 sq ft, which is set to open by December.
A fit-out by PureGym is now underway.
Altered Space has invested around £5m into Stanley Square’s regeneration, which also hosts brands such as Boots, The Works, and Home Bargains, in addition to a range of leisure and F&B offers.
According to the asset manager, over the last six years, footfall at the square has risen 10% each year.
Lyons Thomspon Letts Property Consultants advised Altered Space on the deal.
A PureGym spokesperson said the lease followed a “sustained demand for flexible, affordable fitness” in the city region.
Mark Rebbeck, director of Altered Space, said: “PureGym’s arrival is excellent news for the people of Sale.
“The extra footfall it will inevitably generate will support the current retail, food, and beverage units, as well as our fully let office space, The Classrooms, which are all thriving in Stanley Square.
“Regeneration takes time and is an ongoing process, but Stanley Square has gone from strength to strength since our involvement began in 2019, and PureGym will undoubtedly contribute to Sale’s growing town centre economy.”
In July last year, Altered Space agreed on a 15-year lease with Manero Cinemas, which took 5,000 sq ft at the square to open The Northern Light, a 153-capacity cinema.

Great news! They can go toe to toe with the gym that’s literally next door. Real diversity in development.
