Preston approves £1.4m crop science research facility
Levity Crop Science is turning Crowhall Farm into its new home for developing smart fertilisers that improve global crop production and reduce waste.
Preston-based architect DC & MG Associates designed the scheme, which calls for three large greenhouses and three linked research laboratories. Plans call for 3,175 sq ft of office space and 2,960 sq ft for research and development.
As part of the project, several existing buildings on the 2-acre farm will be repurposed. A barn will be refurbished to become offices, meeting rooms and staff welfare facilities. An old timber workshop will become a storage area and the home of the facility’s biomass boiler.
The crop research centre will be located off Newsham Hall, just four miles north of Preston and between the villages of Woodplumpton and Broughton.
Levity Crop Science will be making the research facility its main base, moving the business from its current location at Myerscough College in Preston.
Consultants on the scheme include Shepherd Planning, structural engineer Graham Schofield, quantity surveyor Beardsmore Associates and mechanical engineer Pettit Singleton Associates.
Preston City Council approved the scheme earlier this month.
