Plans emerge for Sale Lido redevelopment
A 39-flat social housing scheme and a 40-apartment retirement living complex would be constructed on the Washway Road site, which was once a swimming pool and has been vacant since early 2023.
McCarthy Stone and Built Developments have lodged plans for the redevelopment of an L-shaped site that houses the former Sale Lido.
The two-part scheme includes the retention of the Washway Road facade.
Aside from the facade, the existing building, which has been a dance hall and bingo hall as well as a pool, would be knocked down. It its place, Built Developments wants to construct a four-storey block behind the retained frontage comprising 27 one-bedroom flats, 12 with two bedrooms, and retail units on the ground floor.
McCarthy Stone’s retirement living scheme, featuring 26 one-bed flats and 14 with two, would be built on land off Oaklands Drive to the rear of the lido building that is currently used as a car park.
Box Architects is leading on design of the care home and Falconer Chester Hall is the architect for the social housing block. The Planning Bureau is advising on planning matters.

Sounds a good use for the building, Save it going into disrepair

A restored Lido in Sale would be a massive success and form a part of the ongoing regeneration of the Town.
