PLANNING | MMU site heads Manchester agenda
The proposed replacement for the Mabel Tylecote Building within Manchester Metroplitan University’s Oxford Road estate is set to be considered at the next meeting of Manchester City Council’s planning committee, which takes place on 29 June.
Also on the planning list are Manchester Life’s Vesta Street scheme, an infill project in the Northern Quarter, and the second phase of Belgravia’s project in Piccadilly Basin. All are recommended for approval.

That Manchester Life design is a disgrace! Nearly as bad as the vile design of their scheme at Pomona Docks!

I take it Manchester haven’t implemented their residential design quality guidance yet.

Ducie Street is as bad as it gets

Every one of these designs is a utilitarian excrescence. What happened to elegance and flair?

The Ducie street building looks like something in Bucharest in the 1950s.

Excellent. Always happy when I pass Ducie Street on the left hand side.

The concept designs for the MMU site were excellent. What happened?
I’ve not forgiven Allies and Morrison for One Piccadilly. I hope they’re not going to foist another complacent bit of pattern book on design on us.
