Pickerings lines up Wigan depot

The portable cabins business wants to redevelop the Millingford Industrial Estate, to replace Trafford Park as its regional hub.

As things stand, the estate comprises around 74,000 sq ft of industrial space let to various tenants. The 6.6-acre site is on the edge of Golborne town centre, with direct access to the A573 Warrington-Wigan road.

Pickerings Hire intends to clear the site, and replace the buildings with a 12,685 sq ft workshop for cabin construction, using the rest of the plot to store the units.

In operation since 1969, Pickerings is a specialist in the hire, sale and lease purchase of portable modular buildings. In recent years, it has found work in supplying portable accommodation units to the NHS through the Covid pandemic.

STOAS Architects is working with Derbyshire-headquartered Pickerings on the project. In its design & access statement STOAS said that the office building will be two storeys, with the site also accommodating 30 parking spaces.

The remainder of the site, around 4.3 acres, will be used to store accommodation units, which are never stacked more than two high.

Current tenants at Millingford are companies involved in wood pallets and fuel, motor body workshops and tyre recycling.

The planning reference for the scheme is A/22/93633/MAJOR.

Pickerings is a great company and should be a boost for the locals in Golborne.
