Bellway pitches 83 Wigan homes
The housebuilder has submitted plans for homes on an eight-acre slice of greenfield sandwiched between Atherton and Tyldesley.
Bellway Homes applied to Wigan Council for the 83-home scheme off Douglas Road with planner Pegasus Group and designer APD.
Proposals indicate the development of a neighbourhood of 55 three-bedroom homes, with the remaining 28 units split evenly across two- and four-bedroom homes.
To the west of the site is the edge of the residential area of Atherton – Chanters Industrial Estate lies to the east, and would be separated from the neighbourhood by a green buffer and public open space.
Bellway has proposed that 10% of the homes, amounting to eight properties, would be affordable.
All the houses would offer electric vehicle charging provision, a single-storey garage, and a private rear garden.
The proposed access road off the junction of Douglas Road would stretch to the northern end of the plot.
Small ancillary streets of three to four houses would turn west off the access road to form cul-de-sacs.
DEP Landscape Architecture has led planning for the neighbourhood’s public realm, which would feature a play area surrounded by decorative planting.
Urban Design Group, E3P, Townsend Water Engineering, Redmore Environmental, Paul Martin, Eddisons, Red’s Acoustics, and JSP Sustainability are all contributing to the application.
In March this year, Bellway was granted consent to develop 192 properties at the former Shaw Distribution Centre in Oldham.
APD and Pegasus also worked with the developer on that application, which is being delivered in partnership with Great Places Housing.
Those interested can use the planning reference number A/25/098899/MAJOR on Wigan Council’s planning portal to view Bellway’s application.
No park. No childrens playground. No trees. No pathways. No benches: Still, folk can always drive past the “Private Keep Out” signs and fenced off fields to reach the Victorian parks in the towns, not many miles away.

In the plans there is a park area on the other documents in for the plan.
