Oldham green lights 365 homes
Countryside Properties’ £58.4m project in Fitton Hill was unanimously approved by Oldham Council’s planning committee on Wednesday.
Remediation work on the brownfield site is set to begin in July 2022.
Countryside’s proposed 365 homes are a mixture of one- to four-bedroom detached, semi-detached, and mews-style houses, as well as apartments.
They will span two plots, which have a combined area of around 22 acres. The vacant site previously had educational establishments and homes.
The new community will also feature public open spaces. All homes will have private rear gardens.
The smaller plot is located off Rosary Road and is just over four acres. It will have 63 open-market properties.
The larger plot is located off Hill Farm Close is just under 18 acres. Plans show that 302 houses will be built here, with a mix of open-market, private rented and affordable tenures.
Both plots have strong access links, with the larger plot being accessed from Deanshut Road. According to the planning statement by Lichfields, there are a number of bus stops along Rosary Road and Fir Tree Avenue that residents can use to access Oldham, Middleton, Ashton-under-Lyne, and Hathershaw.
The project team includes E3p, Redmore Environmental, CBO Transport, ELLUC and Urban Green.
Joe Turner, managing director for Countryside’s Manchester and Cheshire East division explained how the neighbourhood will benefit the town.
“This development will make a significant contribution to Oldham’s available housing supply, with Countryside’s partnership model providing a high-quality mixed tenure offer,” he said.
“Countryside prides itself on taking underused land and converting it into sustainable communities where people love to live.”
365 bland suburban homes with gas boilers and SUV parking, nowhere near a metrolink or railway station. Our climate can’t sustain this.
