St Modwen sells land for GP surgery

St Modwen has sold a 1.3-acre former supermarket site in Colne, Lancashire, to NHS East Lancashire at an undisclosed price.

The Craddock Street site will become home to a £10m GP surgery and a base for mobile surgery units to take minor operation facilities into the community.

Building works are expected to start on site during 2010 and the new facility is scheduled to open by early 2011.

Richard Bakes, development manager at St Modwen, said: "We have worked hard alongside the council and NHS to secure early planning permission for this important new facility for the community."

Outline planning permission for the four-storey centre was granted in February this year.
