Peel adds to hotel portfolio

The ubiquitous property group has paid an undisclosed sum for the Holiday Inn Express at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, taking the number of hotels it owns to seven.

Peel subsidiary Peel Leisure acquired the hotel from Liverpool-based hotel franchisee Centre Island. Peel said in a statement: "The move is part of Peel Leisure`s strategy of owning and operating hotels in and around the Peel Group's other business interests and is in keeping with Centre Island's own continuing strategy to focus on large town centre and city centre hotel developments."

Peel's eighth hotel, also a Holiday Inn, will open at Media City UK in Salford Quays later in the year. Of the eight, four will be operated directly by Peel and four by tenants. The four owned and operated by Peel are Hampton by Hilton at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Ramada Encore at Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield, Holiday Inn Express at LJLA and Holiday Inn at Media City UK. The four simply owned are Crowne Plaza Liverpool, Mariott in Worsley, Travelodge and Premier Inn at Trafford Centre.
