MIPIM UK: Sadek takes hotseat as Gateway plans move on
High profile regeneration specialist Jackie Sadek has been appointed to chair the Northern Gateway development zone in Cheshire.
The Northern Gateway, launched at MIPIM UK 2015, is a partnership involving two LEP areas, Cheshire & Warrington and Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire, and seven local authorities that seeks to pull together the assets of the areas between the Greater Manchester and Birmingham conurbations.
The chief executive of UK Regeneration, Sadek is a well-known figure who has advised government on property matters. Past roles include spells at London Docklands Development Corporation, Park Royal Partnership, Tesco and the British Urban Regeneration Association.
She said: “We are opening up a new and rich vein of opportunity for business right at the heart of the national transport network. It really is ‘the place where the UK connects’.
“One year on since its launch the project is no longer just a vision – it is a fact. The partnership is ensuring the area is HS2-ready and is building a solid and substantial regional growth strategy.”
Drawing together the area’s key assets, the partnership estimates that 100,000 homes and 120,000 jobs could be created by 2040. Among the key assets promoted in the Northern Gateway Development Zone materials are the Crewe HS2 Hub, Winsford Industrial Estate and Basford West, a gateway site in Crewe.
