Llandudno pub project gets Conwy confirmation
Conwy councillors are set to confirm their decision to allow a redevelopment of a prominent pub in the town centre to go ahead, going against planning officers’ recommendation.
The plans for The Nevill pub, opposite the town’s train station at the junction of Augusta Street and Vaughan Street, include converting the existing pub into nine apartments and building a new 11-home block on a neighbouring plot.
Together, the 20 one, two, and three-bed apartments will provide nearly 16,000 sq ft of accommodation, with the new build element reaching five storeys.
While Conwy’s planning officers had recommended the scheme be refused based on flooding concerns, councillors decided to go against officers’ views, arguing redeveloping the site would be more important.
The current site was branded “a mess” by councillors, who argued approving the scheme would allow the building’s owner, a private developer, to address flooding concerns. The application was first approved last month and will return to planning committee later this week for final approval.
Leave it to be a pub. …
