Keepmoat hopeful of progress for 500 homes in Widnes

Having acquired the 56-acre residential plot off Hale Gate Road from Harworth, the housebuilder is seeking consent to make a start on the project, for which outline plans were approved narrowly in 2024.

Keepmoat lodged reserved matters plans for the 500-home scheme last year. Next week, Halton Council’s development management committee will determine the application, with officers recommending approval.

The scheme would feature 26 shared ownership properties and 74 affordable rent properties.

To an extent, the hard work has already been done; Harworth clinched outline approval for the scheme thanks to a tie-breaking vote from the committee chair in 2024, thus establishing the principle of development.

The site is also allocated for housing in Halton Council’s local plan. The wider development will feature a primary school and local centre in later phases, but the homes will come first.

The reserved matters application has generated 164 objections.

Lichfields, Urban Green, MPSL, Betts Associates, and BWB are advising Keepmoat on planning matters. To learn more, search for application reference number 25/00346/REM on Halton Council’s planning portal.
