Industrial terrace begins at airport

Beijing Construction Engineering Group International has broken ground on Alpha, a new £15m logistics depot at Airport City Manchester, more than a year after planning permission was granted.

Consent was granted for the facility in February 2015. MAG Property said at the time construction was due to start within weeks.

Alpha is part of Airport City’s Global Logistics site and will offer units from 17,500 sq ft to 35,000 sq ft, arranged in a single terrace. The work follows momentum on-site at Global Logistics, following the recent 654,000 sq ft deal with Amazon which will create up to 1,500 jobs at its new fulfilment centre.

BCEGI is as one of the Airport City Manchester’s construction partners alongside Carillion, the integrated support services firm. Manchester Airports Group and the Greater Manchester Pension Fund complete the joint venture partnership.

The letting agents are JLL and CBRE. The architect is RPS Group.
