HG Construction lands £225m Manchester resi contract

London-based contractor HG has won its third large development in the city, the next phase of FEC’s Red Bank, which features 900 homes across four buildings off Dantzic Street.

The £225m Red Bank Riverside build contract is HG Construction’s third in Manchester. The firm is also building Greystar’s 38-storey, 1,000-unit One Medlock PBSA scheme and a 281-unit student scheme for Far East Orchard off Plymouth Grove.

At Red Bank, part of the 15,000-home Victoria North, HG will deliver a quartet of buildings: 316 units within a 34-storey build-to-rent development, and a total of 579 across a hat-trick of buildings of 30, 19, and eight storeys.

Work on these three buildings is expected to start soon, while Gateway 2 sign-off is required for the 34-storey tower ahead of a start early next year.

Designed by Hawkins\Brown, the scheme forms part of a wider 1,551-home development that FEC won planning permission for in 2023. The other 650 homes would be delivered across a further three buildings of 27, 24, and eight storeys in a later phase.

Anthony Payne, operations director at FEC, said: “With HG Construction on board we’re ready to deliver the exciting next phase of Red Bank. Following significant investment in infrastructure and public realm, the neighbourhood is really taking shape, with new homes, green spaces and the next phases of development now coming forward.

“Residents of the four new buildings that HG Construction is set to deliver will enjoy outstanding amenities and green space in a neighbourhood benefiting from significant investment and just a few minutes’ walk from the city centre.”

Adam Quinn, chief executive at HG Construction, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed by FEC to deliver this next phase of Red Bank, supporting the wider Victoria North vision and bringing new life to this important part of Manchester.

“Our in-house self-delivery capabilities, including offsite bathroom and utility pods, allow us to mobilise efficiently while maintaining greater control over programme execution, quality and safety from the outset. We look forward to working with FEC to deliver high-quality homes and help create a thriving new neighbourhood.”
