Galliford Try picked for £4.7m Stalybridge car park
The contractor will deliver the 171-space multi-storey facility on Waterloo Road.
Tameside Council confirmed Galliford Try’s appointment at an executive cabinet meeting on Wednesday. The contract is valued up to a maximum of £4.7m, according to a report discussed at the meeting.
Designed by TODD Architects, the car park forms part of the proposed regeneration of Stalybridge, which is backed by £19.9m of government funding.
The structure will reach 12.81m at its highest point, lower than the adjacent Old Fire Station.
The proposal includes upgrades around the site including a new pedestrian route along King Street leading directly to the car park entrance, better links to Stalybridge Clinic and Waterloo Road, new trees, planting, walls and railings.
AshtonHale is the planning consultant, with the team also including landscape architect LDA Design, ecology expert JCA, flood assessor LK Group, transport consultant PJA. Heyne Tillett Steel, Donald Insall, Innov8ds, iM2, and Troup Bywater & Anders.
Tameside Council executive member for growth, housing and homelessness, Cllr Andrew McLaren, said: “This is an important milestone for Stalybridge and demonstrates our commitment to delivering the infrastructure needed to support the town’s future growth.
“The new multi-storey car park will improve access to the town centre and support local businesses. It is key part of our wider vision for Stalybridge West, where we are working to bring forward new homes and create a thriving residential community close to shops, services and public transport.
“Alongside the car park, the remediation of development sites will help unlock significant opportunities for regeneration, supporting our ambition to create places where people want to live, work and visit.”
