Manchester College and UCEN Manchester’s transformation of the Old Boddingtons’ Brewery site into an education hub has finished, with students set to enjoy the four-storey facility from September.
Designed by Bond Bryan and SimpsonHaugh, City Campus Manchester will be the home to Manchester Colleges’ hospitality, computing, creative, music, digital, and visual and performing arts programmes. The campus will also hold UCEN’s School of Computing and Cyber-Security, The Manchester Film School, The Arden School of Theatre, and the School of Art, Media and Make-Up.
City Campus Manchester has TV, radio and sound studios, as well as areas for photography and arts. There is a 40-seat restaurant that will be run by students and two theatres as well.
Lisa O’Loughlin, principal of The Manchester College and UCEN Manchester, said: “I am delighted that we have reached this extremely exciting milestone in the project which has been five years in the making to provide our students with industry-standard facilities for generations to come.
“City Campus Manchester will not only provide exceptional technical education facilities for learners across Greater Manchester, giving students the perfect environment to gain the skills that they will need for a rewarding career but will also act as a beacon for the power of education and the opportunities it provides in the heart of the city.
Pearson Fraser was the project manager for City Campus Manchester. Willmott Dixon was the main contractor.
Both The Manchester College and UCEN Manchester are part of LTE Group, which is responsible for educating and training more than 100,000 students.

Well done to everyone involved with this project – I would have loved to have a facility like this to go to when I left school.

The last things Manchester needs are more students and more ugly modern buildings

Yes another box……just like one angel gardens, the civil justice centre, nation football museum, the Armani store (former), Burlington, the blade, the drum, …….yes just another box!!! Come on…..Have you ever been to the City???

If this is a Manchester box, we’d gladly adopt some! 🙂

I hear the argument that Manchester is full of boxes. The fact is, most developers investing in Manchester either don’t have the deep pockets to spend on creative designs like you see in big international cities or they don’t want to spend it, knowing they won’t get the ROI.
I would also say that planners and councillors at Manchester City Council could do with getting inspiration from aspiring cities around the world if they want Manchester to compete.
By MacDopel
Oh but MacDopel, Manchester isn’t competing, it’s leading. That’s why all of the jobs and investment continue to come here rather than shall we say ‘lesser’ cities. I actually live here, I see it and feel it everyday and it’s a good feeling to live somewhere so vibrant! This a wonderful design and a welcome addition to a burgeoning city.

Nothing wrong with boxes to bulk out the city. Just look at New York. Oh and by the way there is a pointed sky scrapper going up right across the road to keep you happy 🙂

Not every building can be an architectural masterpiece. There isn’t a city in the world where they are. Manchester has much more of its fair share of very very good modern buildings than any other city In the UK. It also has some seriously good modern buildings along with truly magnificent older buildings. It is a city that people want to be in and travel to. Long May it continue

I can’t wait too see the new college in real life

This is an Incredible facility to have in Manchester. A centre for computing and cyber security in such an inspiring new campus. Facilities like this are one of the reasons the National cyber security centre set up here and so many high tech and high value jobs from Google to HP and Amazon have come to Manchester. imagine the jobs this will provide in the future. I wish I were still a student!
