Former Halton Magistrates Court prepares for auction

The ex-municipal building in Runcorn saw thousands of court cases play out over many years, and will go under the hammer this Thursday as a development site with a guide price of £500,000.

Halton Magistrates Court has remained vacant since its closure in 2017.

The three-storey building currently offers facilities such as offices, interview rooms, and courtrooms.

Last sold to Pearl Properties for £200,000 in July 2022, the freehold property will be one of 184 lots appearing in Bond Wolfe’s auction this week.

Let with vacant possession, the property will be redeveloped following its acquisition.

Ron Darlington, consultant director at Bond Wolfe, commented: “This ex-municipal magistrates building is close to Runcorn town centre and police station, and offers scope to be utilised for a wide range of commercial, retail, or residential uses, subject to obtaining the necessary planning consents.”

The vendor has already provided pre-application plans for the building to be transformed to deliver 29 flats.

Many with my Dad! At the bench… not in the dock! Many days spent there when I had to ‘go to work’ with him in the hols 😳
