FCHO replaces contractor for £3.7m affordable Royton flats

Robwood Construction was meant to complete the 30-apartment project in 2024. Now, two years later, John Southworth Builders has been brought on to salvage the Oldham scheme and see it delivered by the end of July 2027.

First Choice Homes Oldham appointed Robwood in May 2022 to build 15 one-bed and 15 two-bed flats on the former High Barn Resource Centre site in Royton.

The £3.7m scheme, which was led by Lancet Homes and designed by MPSL, is due to be completely affordable rent and achieve an EPC rating of B.

Now, Robwood has been wound up after undergoing compulsory liquidation.

FCHO terminated its contract with Robwood in June due to “unacceptable delays.”

Inspections by new contractor John Southworth have found defects in the existing construction work that will require correction, FCHO said. The group noted that John Southworth will start on site within a few weeks, with an aim towards finishing the scheme in July 2027.

FCHO deputy chief executive Andy Ewart stressed that the project would be completed.

“We share the frustration about the length of time this development has taken but we now have a contractor, a detailed plan and visible progress will soon be seen on site.”
