Elan eyes 104 homes for former Bromborough sports club

The Ellesmere Port-based housebuilder has lodged proposals with Wirral Council for the nine-acre Octel site off Bridle Road.

Plans were first submitted four years ago when the site became vacant before being withdrawn two years later.

After consultation with planning officers and Sport England, revised proposals were brought forward last year.

The housing mix proposed in this application includes apartments, semi-detached, and detached family homes, ranging from two- to five-bedrooms.

Of these units, 21 would be designated affordable housing, to either be rented out or bought under shared ownership.

Plans also include the creation of changing facilities and a refurbished community building to house Bromborough & Eastham Junior Football Club.

Woodland on the site would be retained with other open space, and an equipped play area to be provided as part of the development.

A legal agreement is also being entered into for the delivery of football pitches at the former Prices Sports Club at Bromborough Pool, according to Elan Homes.

This is subject to a separate application lodged to refurbish the derelict building there, as government community body Sport England requires the developer to replace the facilities which will be lost if the Octel site is developed.

The developer says it will also make contributions to other sports in the area including cricket, tennis, and bowling.

An Elan Homes spokesperson said: “A decision on these two planning applications is imminent.

“If both applications are approved the development proposals will deliver much needed new housing in the area, without encroaching on the Green Belt.

“The site owners have made it clear that the former Octel Club will not re-open and therefore approval of the residential element will provide certainty for neighbours of the site, which is currently vulnerable to anti-social behaviour.

“We look forward to these planning applications going to Wirral Council’s planning committee for a decision.”

On the project team for the residential development are Avison Young, E3P, Sutcliffe, PSD Agronomy,  and TGMS surface consultants.

MKH, BSA Heritage, Grasscrete, AAC, and SCP, are on the team for the Prices Sports Club football pitches.

The plans can be viewed by searching for reference number APP/23/00324, for the residential development, and APP/23/00334 for the sports facilities, on Wirral Council’s planning portal.

We as a family are very interested in renting out a new build house built by Elan homes in Bromborough,
we currently rent a council property in Bromborough for the last 17years, we have a 19 year old disabled son who has Autism and myself who has a disability, reasons of this change would not be a overwhelming change for us as we would be in the same area, I would be greatly if someone could contact us over this or point us in the right direction of being eligible or give us as a family more information,my contact number is 07940997151. Kind regards Gillian Harrison.
