Dishoom to make Liverpool debut in March
Taking over 5,250 sq ft at Bruntwood’s Exchange Court, the B-Corp Indian restaurant chain will soon bring its Permit Room concept to the Merseyside city.
Permit Room is the all-day bar-café offering from Dishoom, which was founded by Shamil and Kavi Thakrar. The company operates Permit Rooms in London, Brighton, Cambridge, and Oxford. Dishoom itself has restaurants throughout London, Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, and Edinburgh.
“We’ve wanted to bring Dishoom to Liverpool for a long time, and Permit Room felt like the perfect way to do it,” said Dishoom chief executive Brian Trolip.
“Our Permit Rooms are lively and rooted in the spirit of Bombay’s drinking culture – a place for cocktails, comfort food and connection, all day long. We can’t wait to open our doors and become part of the city.”
Interiors UK led the fit-out for Dishoom at Exchange Court, with Macaulay Sinclair charged with the interior design of the space.
The Permit Rooms opening in early spring is the latest news for Bruntwood’s grade two-listed building at No1 Dale Street. Exchange Court, the former of the Royal Bank of Scotland, underwent a substantial refurbishment in 2024 to bolster its amenity and office offering.
Bruntwood development manager Emmie Woods welcomed Permit Room to Exchange Court.
“Its arrival marks an exciting new chapter for the building, bringing fresh energy to the area and drawing even more people into the heart of the city,” she said.
Chris Nutter acted for Bruntwood on the leasing deal with Dishoom.

Yes this whole building has had a quality refurb from Bruntwood, pity they can’t get hold of the grade 2 Martins Bank building (the paler one in the photo) , where the proposed refurb has stalled.

Yet another vote of confidence in the City of Liverpool. I remember the ” international clock ” in the insurance office of that proposed refurbished building in my 1950’s childhood. Best wishes for success to yh brothers proposed development.

Shame it isn’t the full Dishoom restaurant, the one in Edinburgh is some of the nicest Indian food I have ever tasted. Still, happy this is arriving, great addition to the city.
