Dandara plans in for stalled site
Developer Dandara has submitted a planning application to Salford City Council for a 995-apartment scheme on a site between the River Irwell and Chapel Street.
The 4.2-acre site is next to the Lowry Hotel, Century Building and Trinity Bridge House. The development would see the demolition of existing office and warehouses buildings and the relocation of the Lowry car park, to make way for four buildings of between 12 and 22 storeys.
The scheme would include a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments for private rent. There would be 15,800 sq ft of commercial units on the ground floor.
The site benefits from existing planning consent granted in 2007 for a similar scheme, designed by Hodder & Partners. The proposals were never progressed due to the economic downturn.
Dandara unveiled its revised plans at a consultation event earlier this year.
In a planning statement to the council, architect Axis Mason, which advised Dandara, said: "The design of this scheme will ensure the creation of a sustainable development that follows a best practice approach to design and place making, whilst protecting and building upon the existing character of this area of Salford and its community values.
"This will ensure the creation of a safe, attractive and integrated development for both current and future generations."
CBRE, PPS Group and Axis Mason advise Dandara.
