Contractor sought for Prince’s Gate
Oldham Council is inviting bids from construction firms to build the 195,000 sq ft Prince’s Gate retail development, due to open in 2018 with a Marks & Spencer as its centrepiece.
The council is procuring a contractor to deliver M&S’s anchor tenant store and up to four further retail units. The budget is between £30m and £35m. Work includes delivering under-croft car parking and a service yard; residential and hotel; landscaping, public realm and external works; improvements to the highway and to pedestrian crossings on Prince Street and Roscoe Street. Fit-out of the residential/hotel and smaller retail units currently forms part of this tender opportunity but may be omitted.
Planning consent was granted last week for the scheme. The scheme is on two neighbouring development sites totaling six acres in Oldham Mumps opposite the Metrolink station, 600 metres east of Spindles Shopping Centre.
The first phase of the overall scheme is currently on site; Westshield is main contractor for the replacement park-and-ride facility on the opposite side of the road.
The deadline for expressions of interest is 27 May. The project is partly funded by the European Union.
