ClearFibre to roll out high-speed internet at Wirral Waters

The technology firm, in partnership with connectivity provider Connectus, is to install rapid broadband technology at Peel L&P’s Wirral Waters mixed-use scheme, as part of a £4.2m project.

ClearFibre and Connectus have signed an exclusivity agreement to design, deliver and install a package of internet services across 13,000 homes and 20m sq ft of mixed-use space at Wirral Waters.

The partnership is also understood to cover the provision of high-speed broadband services to another of the UK’s largest residential developers across the Northern Powerhouse region, but the details of this strand of the work were not disclosed.

Connectus, a commercial connectivity, cybersecurity and broadband collaboration services provider was already developer Peel L&P’s nominated infrastructure provider at Wirral Waters, while ClearFibre – part of Telcom Group – works with the commercial property industry to install high-speed internet in housing schemes.

Under the partnership, the pair will deliver full fibre broadband at speeds from 250Mbps to 1Gbps directly into people’s homes. Meanwhile, Connectus will provide additional highly secure connectivity services across the network along with VoIP (voce over internet protocol) solutions, collaboration software tools and cybersecurity packages for home workers and businesses.

“This technology with ultrafast, secure, guaranteed services has never before been delivered in the UK residential sector, and gives both residents and their employers peace of mind that their home workers have the tools they need to work effectively and without interruption of service,” the partners said in a joint statement.

“This will of course benefit all those in the gig-economy, dispersed socially distanced homeworkers and residents that run their businesses from their home…which is crucial in today’s climate,” the statement added.

Paul Eaton, chief commercial officer at ClearFibre, said: “ClearFibre and Connectus have an opportunity to bring something very different to the market, but at a time when these tools are desperately needed for residents in today’s changing world.”

The initial pipeline of work at Wirral Waters is a combination of contracted and non-contracted business and is worth in the region of £4.2m over a 3-4-year period, according to ClearFibre and Connectus.

ClearFibre last month appointed former Hyperoptic director and head of national sales, Tim Huxtable, as its chief sales officer in order to grow its operations.
