Castle Green appoints commercial director

From quantity surveyor to commercial director – Rhys Jones has risen through the ranks since joining the housebuilder in 2017.

In addition to being a QS, Jones was also commercial manager and head of commercial before becoming a director.

When he first joined Castle Green Homes the company was known as Macbryde Homes.

As commercial director, Jones will lead a team of six to ensure that everything is in order, from materials to subcontractors, on the company’s various sites. His team will also note the profit and loss for each project and help other departments with sales and customer care advice.

Jones noted that current problems around the world could make his job difficult.

“Supply chain issues are affecting the construction industry as they are other sectors,” Jones said. “These include lead-in times for key materials and the prices rising on an almost daily basis. It’s therefore important to have clear lines of communication with our supply chain partners.

“Working with the planning and construction teams we look at the build programme to order materials early enough to ensure we have sufficient stocks on site to achieve our targets.”

While he expressed pride in his new position, Jones did admit he had not met a goal he had set for himself.

“I’m an ambitious person and was hoping to make director in my 30th year but missed it by a month,” the 31-year-old Jones said.

Jones continued to say that he felt “privileged” to be named commercial director.

“I have worked hard since the day I joined the business as Macbryde and have always been aiming for the top,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to supporting the team in my new role, ensuring that we maximize our profits, while still delivering high-quality homes and retaining our five-star customer satisfaction rating.”

He added that he had bought a Castle Green home himself, saying that he was “so proud of the product we deliver”.

Castle Green chief executive Gwyn Jones praised Jones’ work ethic.

“Rhys has been instrumental in the growth of the business over the last five years, and his promotion to commercial director reflects his hard work and dedication,” Jones said.

“He will have a key role to play in helping ensure that we can take the business to the next level as we target building 500-plus homes a year by 2024.”
