Casey lands £6m Longford Park revamp
The Rochdale-based contractor will work with Trafford Council to finalise the design and cost of the refresh of the beloved 54-acre green space in Stretford.
Casey Group secured the eight-week pre-construction services contract for the £6m project through the North West Construction Hub Framework.
A revamp of Longford Park was proposed in 2023 and received £3.1m from the National Lottery. Initial designs drawn up by Buttress Architects include the conversion of the historic Long Barn into a volunteering and training hub, a redesign of the former Longford Hall site and gardens, creation of a BMX track, and improvements to sports facilities.
Some aspects of the council’s masterplan for the park are already underway, with plans in place to plant 81 trees in the spring, the de-cultivation of Longford Brook started, refurbishment of Pet’s Corner begun, and various improvements to footpaths, seating, and lighting in place.
“We’ve been planning and consulting on these exciting improvements and now they are starting to happen,” said Cllr Stephen Adshead, the executive members for highways, environmental, and traded services at the council.
“Together with Casey and other partners we will make Longford Park an even better place to visit and spend time in, with lovely facilities for people to benefit from,” he added later.

It’d be good if amey could stop their staff driving all over the grass and unbound paths – there’s no need for it beyond pure laziness.
