Bolton at Home to spend £700k tackling asbestos

A building inspection contract worth £350,000 a year is on offer with Bolton at Home, the arm's length management organisation for the council's housing stock.

The appointed contractor will check for asbestos and undertake removal and repair work if required. The estate includes 17,300 properties of which an undefined proportion will require asbestos related services.

The £350,000/year contract will run for two years with an option to extend for a further two periods of 12 months subject to performance.

Bolton at Home will begin construction of the first council houses in the borough for 20 years in February, designed by Wirral architects Paddock Johnson Partnership.

The first 17 homes will be built on land at Hamilton Court, in Little Lever. Over the next 12 years, Bolton Council wants to develop around 6,000 new homes of which 3,000 will be for sale and 3,000 for affordable rent.
