Blackpool to approve 53,000 sq ft office near train station

Expected to be home to more than 400 civil servants once complete, Muse’s six-storey building would be constructed on the site of the former Apollo 2000 store, which was demolished several years ago.

Plans for the 53,000 sq ft Blackpool office were lodged in May. The building would be the second civil service hub built in the town in short order, work on a 215,000 sq ft office on nearby King Street to be occupied by the DWP is ongoing.

Both offices were designed by Make Architects and form part of Blackpool Council’s Talbot Gateway masterplan, which is being delivered by Muse.

A report to Blackpool’s planning committee, which will meet to discuss the scheme next week, states that the latest office scheme “would deliver clear economic and social benefits by bringing approximately 410 workers into the town centre who would support local shops and services”.

The development has been recommended for approval.

Re-form is advising on landscape and Arup is the structural engineer. Cundall, AECOM, Hannan Associates, and WSP also feature on the project team.

Parking will be an issue, with the up and coming 3,000 civil servants working in the new builds in town. Will public transport be reliable for staff ?
However, great for the town, good foot fall for local shops and business, it will be nice to see a buzz around the town, it’s been a long time coming.
