Blackpool FC lodges plans for Revoe Sports Village

The football club wants to create the community facility next to its Bloomfield Road stadium with the help of £6.5m of government funding.

Blackpool FC has lodged an application to build two all-weather fenced and floodlit sports pitches – one full-sized 11-a-side pitch and one FA-sized 5-a-side pitch – on a 5.6-acre site immediately north of the club’s ground.

Supporting infrastructure including changing facilities, parking, and new public realm also feature within the plans, designed by OPEN.

“The pitches will be an important resource intended for use by the local community and also for Blackpool FC’s Women and Girls teams,” a planning statement by Avison Young says.

One of Blackpool Council’s Towns Fund projects, the community sports centre will border the 400-home Foxhall Village residential development.

Blackpool Council took control of the stalled Foxhall Village project last year following the collapse of developer Hollinwood Homes.

The sports village will occupy part of the 19-acre site while the other unfinished plot is being built out by Great Places.

Earlier this year, the council began clearing the Central Drive site in preparation for its redevelopment into a sports village.

The site falls into the Southern Gateway element of the wider Revoe masterplan, drawn up by GL Hearn.

Plans for the Southern Gateway also feature a replacement east stand at Bloomfield Road, as well as commercial, retail and residential elements.

In addition, the demolition of existing, poor-quality housing and light industrial sites could allow the football club to create a performance and conference building running the length of the east stand and fronting Central Drive, according to the masterplan.

While The Championship club progresses plans for the sports village, work to develop a long-awaited new training ground is also underway.

In July, the club launched a consultation on proposals for a nearly 100-acre facility off Garstang Road.
