Artez breaks ground at Living Ventures scheme
Work has begun on MediaCityUK’s latest leisure development, The Alchemist cocktail bar and restaurant.
Greater Manchester-based contractor Artez Group started on site on Monday 22 August at a plot known as The Bund in Salford Quays, which sits on the bridge that links MediaCityUK to The Lowry.
The £1.7m project is being developed for restaurant group Living Ventures by MediaCityUK, a joint venture between Peel Land & Property Group and Legal & General Capital. Reid Architects designed the building.
The restaurant will feature a gold-clad roof and walls externally, while a terrace will cantilever out over the canal, creating a waterside al fresco drinks and dining space.
The Alchemist at MediaCityUK will be the third in Greater Manchester, with others operational in Spinningfields and on New York Street in Manchester city centre.
Mike Banton, managing director at Artez Group, said: “The building is a stunning design so we’re incredibly proud to be working on what I’m certain will become an iconic landmark in the area. We’re looking forward to transforming this piece of land – formerly the location of the sales office for developments – into the region’s next go-to night spot.”
Simon Potts, managing director, The Alchemist said: “As a team, we are delighted that The Alchemist will be opening in MediaCityUK and hugely excited now that work is underway. It promises to be a popular addition to, what is now, a vibrant area for both work and play. The building itself will definitely make a statement, with some remarkable bespoke features. We believe it will become a truly iconic building in time.”
Work on the restaurant is due to be completed in spring 2017.
There’s another Alchemist on New York Street. Not a criticism, just a ‘heads up’ 🙂

Looks great actually.

It didn’t earlier, they’ve amended it now.

Not sure about that roof, looks a bit tardy, but great to see a Living Ventures “venturing” into Salford – you like what I did there 🙂

Looks brilliant. Artez are great contractors too, winning loads of work at the moment as they’re developing a real niche.

Look forward to seeing it too, as the back shot for BBC interviews from Salford studios…

I can follow the progress daily as City Lofts overlooks the site. Given the interesting design I am sure it will further enhance The Quays. This area just gets better and better.
