Anwyl outlines 82-home Stockport ambition

Under the Flintshire-based developer’s proposals, the former Focus School site in Heaton Mersey would become a mixture of retirement apartments and semi-detached houses.

Anwyl Partnerships has submitted its application to Stockport Council to build 72 apartments and 10 semi-detached houses on the more than three-acre site off Didsbury Road. All 72 apartments would be designated affordable under the Older Persons Shared Ownership tenure.

Anwyl acquired the site in April. The land had been vacant since 2019, when the school relocated.

Lovelock Mitchell Architects drew up the plans, which would see the creation of an apartment block of up to four storeys with 37 one-bed and 35 two-bed flats. These would be geared towards those older than 55.

The 75,300 sq ft apartment building would have a reception and residents’ lounge, as well as multiple gardens – including one on the roof. Residents would also have access to staff 24 hours a day in case they need additional care.

Visitors would be able to park in a nine-space visitor car park. There would also be a car park with 27 spaces, of which six would be for those with disabilities.

The 10 semi-detached houses would each have four bedrooms, a rear garden and two parking spaces.

Access to the development would be off a priority-controlled T-junction at Didsbury Road.

Mosaic Town Planning is the planning consultant for the scheme. Tirlun Barr is the landscape architect.

Other consultants include Ashley Helme Associates on transport, Wardell Armstrong on noise, Hydrock on flood risk and drainage, and Mulberry on arboriculture.

Is this located near the runway to MAN’s terminal three?

The 10 semi detached houses are all 4 bedrooms, this will put all these houses outside the reach of first time buyers. Surely having 3 & 4 beds will ensure a mix of affordable housing.
