Altrincham Interchange plans submitted

Transport for Greater Manchester has put in a planning application to Trafford Council for the redevelopment of Altrincham Interchange for bus, tram and train services.

TfGM plans to replace the existing facilities with a fully accessible modern concourse and a single ticket office.

Cllr Keith Whitmore, chairman of Transport for Greater Manchester, said: "These proposals will revitalise this important site and provide a very attractive gateway to the town.

"While the plans are ambitious, they also retain many of the site's valuable heritage features – something that came across as being important to many people in the consultation we carried out for the scheme.

"So I am delighted that, following detailed discussions with Trafford Council, we have agreed a scheme we're both very happy with that, in addition to the substantial retention of the existing rail station buildings, also keeps the canopies on all platforms and actually improves them by introducing glazing on to the canopy on platform one.

"I now look forward to the application being progressed and the detailed designs being finalised in the coming months."

In addition to the proposals described above, the current bus station will be completely redeveloped and improvements will also be introduced to the rail platforms, the entrance to the station from Moss Lane and the pedestrian area on Stamford New Road.
