Adhan grows retail portfolio with 437,000 sq ft Cumbria buy
The Lanes in Carlisle will soon be under new ownership as Blackburn-based brothers Salim and Mustaq Adhan zero in on the acquisition of the shopping centre.
Adhan Group is close to acquiring the 437,000 sq ft retail complex, the largest in Cumbria, out of receivership.
The complex was put up for sale by receivers Cushman & Wakefield and marketed by Savills last year with a guide price of just under £16m.
This was significantly less than the price £60m F&C REIT, the last registered owners, paid in 2012.
Primark is the top tenant by income at the Carlisle shopping complex. Its lease has 15 years left on it, while the overall WAULT for The Lanes is just over six years.
Adhan Group said it is already in “advanced discussions” with national retailers to secure further tenancies once the deal is finalised. Large parts of the 100,000 sq ft former Debenhams remain available to let.
Adhan has been on something of a spending spree in recent years, acquiring the 700,000 sq ft Golden Square shopping centre in Warrington, The Mall in Blackburn, and Rochdale Exchange in 2023 alone.
This year, the investor has added a former Buzz Bingo hall and a manufacturing plant to its hometown holdings.
