WSP sheds Indigo name now merger complete

The Indigo Planning brand name will be dropped from Monday, one year after multidisciplinary firm WSP’s acquisition of the consultancy, which saw the companies establish an 800-strong team at Manchester’s First Street.

Operating as WSP | Indigo since April 2019, the former Indigo business has now been integrated into WSP’s planning and advisory division to create a combined team advising on town planning alongside infrastructure and environment.

Prior to the acquisition, Indigo Planning was made up of 105 chartered town across London, Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds.

Clients include Sainsbury’s, Legal & General, Homes England, Peabody, Aviva, Peel Holdings, Royal Mail, National Grid, Morgan Sindall and Berkeley Homes.

While operating as WSP | Indigo the firm has been advising on Therme Group’s planned wellness resort in Manchester and Eden Project North in Morecambe.

Phil Villars, head of planning consultancy and EAM at WSP, said: “From the initial discussions we held with WSP about a potential acquisition, it was clear how beneficial Indigo and WSP combining their expertise would be for our clients and people. As Indigo Planning, we are incredibly proud of how our business developed over the last 30 years and what we have achieved for clients and communities alike.

“The creation of planning consultancy combines Indigo and WSP’s expertise into one specialist offer for clients, enabling WSP to provide market-leading consulting services on some of the UK’s most significant developments and projects.”
