Warrington community centre plans submitted
LiveWire Warrington, which runs libraries and leisure centres on behalf of the local authority, has submitted a planning application for a £1.5m community centre to serve Bewsey and Dallam.
Warrington Council has committed £1m for the new building from its capital investment programme. Torus, a joint venture between social landlords Helena Partnership and Golden Gates Housing Trust, has pledged £300,000, and LiveWire will provide the remaining £200,000. The funding from the three organisations will cover the first phase of the project while LiveWire will apply for grants from funding bodies to cover phase two.
Phase one of the project will see a fitness suite, studio, library, IT suites and rooms for community activities built within the three-storey building. Plans for phase two include a learner hydro-therapy pool and an extra wing which will provide health care provision. If LiveWire manages to secure funding for phase two, the additions to the building will see a £2.7m hub developed.
The plans will be considered by Warrington Council’s planning committee in the New Year. If they are approved, construction work will begin at the site on Longshaw Street in spring 2016, with an estimated completion date of early 2017.
