Vinci/McAlpine to rebuild St Cath’s

A partnership between construction giants Vinci and Sir Robert McAlpine has agreed a deal worth £32m to build a health centre in Birkenhead for NHS Wirral.

The joint venture, called Integrated Health Projects, secured the St Catherine's Health Centre project through the ProCure 21 framework. The job includes building a 110,000 sq ft four-storey health centre to replace out-dated former workhouse and sanatorium buildings. The new complex will fit around the Grade II-listed St Catherine's Church with five colour coded wings spanning from a central atrium.

Chris Hamer, regional director of Vinci, said: "It's excellent to have reached financial close on this major new health centre, which will turn the eight acre site into a new hub of health and wider care services for Wirral.

"The completion of this contract demonstrates that vehicles like Procure 21 continue to deliver valuable health sector developments, even in a more challenging market."
