VIDEO | No excuses – why the time to turbocharge housing is now

The government’s sweeping policy reforms and increased funding for homes have created the most hospitable environment for housing delivery in years, speakers at a roundtable facilitated by Onward Homes said.

Contractors, regeneration specialists, developers, and registered providers gathered in Manchester earlier this month to discuss the opportunity the government’s aggressive attitude towards the housing crisis presents in Greater Manchester.

“This is the moment for housing associations to really step up and deliver,” said Bronwen Rapley, chief executive of Onward Homes.

Key takeaways

  • The nation has not been in a better position to deliver more homes and better places for a long time. But doing so will require more productive, long-term, and collaborative partnerships going forward so that the opportunity for change is not lost.
  • Addressing the skills crisis will be key to unlocking the delivery of homes. Without investment and intervention in this space, the housing industry faces frustration ahead.
  • Moving from a project-based approach to a more strategic programme-based outlook would be much more cost effective and give clients more certainty over delivery.
