Up to 400 homes plotted at Shaw distribution centre
Estuary Park Property Holdings, the landlord of the 30-acre site off Linney Lane, wants to redevelop the industrial facility into housing after two key tenants decided to relocate.
Online retailer the Very Group moved its Greater Manchester operations to an 850,000 sq ft unit in the East Midlands earlier this year, and courier firm Yodel has also announced plans to relocate within the next five years.
The 1m sq ft Shaw National Distribution Centre in the borough of Oldham, first opened by retail and football betting company Littlewoods in 1979, is made up of five buildings, three of which are converted cotton mills.
Estuary Park’s proposals include the construction of up to 400 homes on the site, as well as the creation of open space for the community.
The proposals aim to “secure the long-term future of the site”, according to Estuary Park.
A masterplan for the site has been created by a project team including CBRE as the planning consultant and Urban Green as the urban designer and landscape planner.
Integra Consulting, I-Transport, Ensafe, Orion Heritage, Rachel Hacking Ecology and Lexington Communications are also on the project team.
A spokesperson for Estuary Park, said: “Our proposals will provide much-needed new homes in Shaw without the need to develop Green Belt land.
“The remediation and regeneration of this brownfield site will positively impact the environment particularly the River Beal, creating a new naturalised corridor and increased biodiversity.”
A public consultation into the proposed residential development opens tomorrow and will run for two weeks.
Estuary Park said it hopes to submit an outline planning application before the end of the year.
